多色木版画「語る女」Multi-Colour Wood Block Print ‘Woman Talking’

４月８日、国立国際美術館へ最終日の「草間彌生展」に出かけました。昨年１１月に東京渋谷のワタリウム美術館で「草間」を観たこともあり、この展覧会はひさしぶりに楽しむことができました。帰途休憩のために立ち寄った店で、友人と熱く語っている女性を見ました。版画のモティーフにと思い立ち、帰宅後記憶をもとに下絵を描き制作した作品です。

On the 8th of  April, I went out to the final day of the “Yayoi Kusama Exhibition” in the National Museum of Art, Osaka.   Having already seen “Kusama” in Watarium  Museum of Contemporary Art in Shibuya Tokyo on the last November, I could very much enjoy it.  In the shop I dropped in for a rest on the way to home, I saw a woman, who were enthusiastically having a talk with a friend of hers.  As I thought that the woman could be a motif, I drew a rough sketch based on the memory after returning home.    This is the piece I composed with the rough sketch.

新作に取りかかる Starting out a brand new piece of work

３月中頃から新しい作品に取りかかりました。かなり前に描いていたエスキースをもとに９０cm x４５cmの版下をつくり、版木に転写して彫り始めたところです。版木は７面で，写真はそのうち，彫りかけの２版です。しばらくは国展の審査等のため制作は進まないと思いますが、いずれ完成作品を本欄に掲載したいと思っております。

Since the middle of the March this year, I have started to compose my brand new piece of work. Based on the esquisse drawn quite some time ago, I have composed a block copy (90cm x 45cm). Consequently, I’ve transcribed the block copy to a printing block and now just started to engrave the printing block. While the printing block is consisted by 7 printings, the photos I displayed here are 2 printings out of it. Although I suppose that due to the period of judgement of Kokuga-kai I am concerned with, the production would not be making progress for a while, I am looking to publish the complete pieces of work in this place before long.
